S.lk by Alani McKenna Textiles
How can a visual identity reflect the beauty of curls, silk, and self-expression?
Commissioned by Alani McKenna, a textile designer based in Wellington, Aotearoa, this project involved creating a complete visual identity for S.lk, a brand specialising in 100% silk accessories designed and made locally.
Guided by the tagline, “Made for curls, by someone with curls,” the identity honours individuality, natural form, and softness. The design challenge was to capture both movement and simplicity, to reflect the texture of curls and the flowing nature of silk through a single, uninterrupted line.
From the logo and colour palette to packaging and illustration, every element was crafted with a thoughtful, hand-drawn approach. The resulting system feels warm, tactile, and honest, designed to connect with those who see beauty in the details and meaning in the materials.
